C.W. Worth House Bed and Breakfast Is the Power of Travel
National Travel and Tourism Week 2021 celebrates the role of travel in the recovery of our Nation.
National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW) is May 2-8! Last year, we celebrated the Spirit of Travel and its resiliency during the pandemic. This year, as we are on the road to recovery, we celebrate the Power of Travel: the industry’s impact on reviving communities, restoring the economy, strengthening our workforce and reconnecting America.
Prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, travel and tourism was a substantial source of revenue for the United States economy, producing roughly $2.6 trillion in economic output and $51 billion trade surplus. The industry provided jobs for nearly 17 million Americans from all walks of life. Today, travel spending is down $500 billion, costing the US economy $1.1 trillion. The number of travel-supported jobs had a 34% decrease going from 17 million jobs in 2019 to 11 million in 2020, making up 65% of all US unemployment. Here in North Carolina, travel spending is down 37%. As a result, federal, state and local tax receipts declined by 30%.
Despite the frightening truth of these statistics, C.W. Worth House Bed and Breakfast – and the travel and tourism industry – is powerful and resilient.
Amidst these trying times brought on by COVID-19, we have faced numerous challenges. From mandatory government shutdowns to the fear of the unknown, we have learned, adapted and overcome these struggles. Wilmington has almost fully reopened and traveler confidence has increased substantially; however, it is through continued understanding, caring and determination that we pave the road to a full recovery together.
Wilmington’s travel and tourism industry contributes so much to our local economy and the community’s individuality, making it such a wonderful destination for travelers. Come stay with us to join us in celebrating the Power of Travel!
