Calm Mornings on the River
In the sun or out, there are plenty of enticing things to do in Wilmington. Besides being a coastal town offering beaches, coastal waterways and the riverfront, Wilmington is one of the largest historic districts listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Many fascinating buildings, historic sites and museums are open with stories that will both inform and fascinate you such as the Bellamy Mansion, The Latimer House and the Burgwin-Wright House.
Wilmington is on the map with a dozen craft breweries most within walking distance of the inn such as Waterline, Ironclad and New Anthem. Within a short drive are the North Carolina Aquarium, The Cape Fear Museum of History and Science and the Cameron Art Museum.
You can stroll along the Riverwalk with many local shops and those in the Cotton Exchange and City Market or just enjoy the view of the river and the Battleship North Carolina looming across the river.
Wilmington Water Tours cruises 7 days a week on the Cape Fear River hourly during the daytime and a 2 hour sunset cruise with live music Thursday, Friday and Saturday. This Fall, their 10:00 am cruise will discover the change of seasons from summer to winter and the changing flora and fauna with a watchful eye for migrating birds. This is a great photo op for nature lovers. The 2 hour narrated cruise focuses on both history and ecology.
Sunsets and More
When evening falls, discover one of the many fine restaurants downtown and along the riverfront where you will enjoy the sunset. If you are a foodie, try Rx, Manna or Pinpoint; you won’t be disappointed. Take a romantic horse and carriage ride or stroll along the famous ghost walk. If the arts call to you, take in a play or performance at the 1858 Thalian Hall or the new Wilson Center for Performing Arts.
