Local Business Review
We love Noni Bacca Winery so much that we wanted to keep them in the forefront of your mind. They are Wilmington's finest “Boutique” winery located just 4.5 miles from historic downtown Wilmington. Toni & Ken Incorvaia are the proprietors and our very good friends. If you want a truly unique wine-tasting experience you need to visit them. Many of our guests have. If you want to try either brewing your own beer or making your own wine, Toni & Ken will get you started (and are always available for tech support).
We have not only tasted most of their award-winning wines but have completed our first home wine kit (it’s pretty darn good too!). We hope to have on hand through January and February, our own “Worth House Red” and will offer a taste just for the asking! Doug has made 3 of their beer kits and those are good as well and has shared a couple bottles with guests too (next batch coming soon “English Pale Ale”). Check out their website for shipping to your area—gift baskets, wine kits, beer kits and accessories.
Recipe of the Month
Here is a cold-weather comfort food recipe for you. It works best for up to 8 people.
Apple Dumplings
4 Gala Apples
1 packages Crescent Rolls
1/4 stick butter
1/2 C. apple juice
1/2 C. sugar
Cinnamon
Peel, core and cut in half each apple. Roll out crescents into individual triangles and flatten out. Wrap each half apple in the triangle. Place in a 9x9 pan sprayed with Pam. Sprinkle liberally with cinnamon. Combine remaining ingredients in small pan over stove and heat until sugar dissolves. Pour over apples in pan. Sprinkle more cinnamon over dumplings. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes until slightly browned. Let sit 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy!

It seems a lofty goal to seek a simpler way of life, but when I met Wanda Urbanska at a bed and breakfast conference, it seemed possible. She has been called the “Martha Stewart” of the Simple Living Movement and was featured in Oprah Magazine. If you can find “Simple Living with Wanda Urbanska” on PBS in your area, you will not be disappointed. But you can always find her at her website www.simplelivingtv.net . Be sure to sign up for her newsletter. Following are a couple of paragraphs from her website.
SIMPLE LIVING WITH WANDA URBANSKA offers thoughtful ideas to inspire each of us to make adjustments to possession-cluttered, time-starved lives. Whether it’s suggesting that you replace disposable coffee cups with a travel mug, buy a seasonal share of a local farmer’s crop or volunteer for a worthwhile cause, we’ll provide you with small steps that, taken together by all of us, can make a large impact on your own life and on society as a whole.
SIMPLE LIVING WITH WANDA URBANSKA examines what people can do to make their lives easier and more stress-free, from buying products that will last a long time to managing budgets more responsibly. The show focuses on four themes:*environmental stewardship, thoughtful consumption, community involvement and financial responsibility.* In each of the shows, when you make those lifestyle changes there are multiple and overlapping benefits. All of these benefits and changes are little changes, but they add up to a lot when taken together. They are ways for people to become more thoughtful about the way that we live, and to lessen our environmental footprint. Remember our mantra:*Nothing’s Too Small to Make a Difference.*

On a personal note...
In Memorium Doug and I are very saddened by the fact that our cat Smokie was very sick and had to go to heaven in July. She was 16 years old. At the very same time a 4 month old Siamese kitten appeared in our back yard, scared and lost, I guess. It took weeks to befriend him, but, of course, we took him in. His name is Simon and he is adorable and wants to meet all of you.
In closing, please feel free to call or write to us with your questions or comments. We hope to see you soon at the C. W. Worth House Bed and Breakfast!
Sincerely,
Margi and Doug Erickson
